Hiring and Firing!
The Christmas period, particularly NYE is one of the most popular times for popping the big question. Not, will you drive home tonight so I can drink, but will you marry me.
An engagement ring often doubles as a Christmas present, and what better time (other than perhaps Valentines Day) to get down on one knee and propose, surrounded by tinsel, glitter, fairy lights and lots and lots of alcohol!
Ironically, the same period is also one of the most common times for couples to split up. The stress of Christmas, coupled with family responsibilities and spending more time together than is perhaps advisable (not to mention all the alcohol) can often cause existing rifts to become irredeemable.
It’s one of the reasons why our office remains open throughout December – you can be certain that at least one of our clients will do something that might require legal advice!
You might think that might only apply to the “firing” aspect of family work, but it can equally apply to the “hiring” part.
Not only might you need help with the fun things (like contracts with caterers, and disputes with photographers who get it wrong) but you might also want to consider things like pre nuptial agreements which (whilst still an uncertain area of law) can still provide protection, especially if done early enough in the pre-wedding process.
It may not be romantic, but it’s definitely cost effective.
